Fire Prevention Program

Exchange's Fire Prevention activities are observed during the month of October. Year after year, fires in the United States claim thousands of lives and are responsible for countless injuries and vast amounts of property damages. But in many cases, those deadly and destructive fires could have easily been prevented. This program is used to make the public more aware of fire prevention and the efforts of our local fire departments during Fire Prevention Week, and to provide and assist in the installation of fire detectors in homes of senior citizens and/or the less advantaged. We honor the Fireperson of the Year at one of our meetings.

Club member Rusty Thomas, Chief with the Charleston Fire Department, gave us an update on the continuing growth issues occurring in our area, and how they are striving to meet the needs of the community. He gave respects to Club member Irv Seyle and his family for his years of service as Assistant Fire-Chief and Exchangite.

The 2005-06 Fireman of the Year Awardee, Ed Henry, was honored for his heroics in saving the lives of two people in a 3 story house fire in April. He risked his life, and deservedly was honored for his service.  Congratulations Ed !!
