Book of Golden Deeds

This exclusive Exchange Club program honors the quiet, good deeds of America's unsung heroes. The woman who reguarly donates her time to care for disadvantaged children - the man who voluntarily instructs disabled persons in some skill or craft - these are the kinds of exceptional individuals that the Book of Golden Deeds Award aims to recognize. It's used to recognize and bestow deserved tribute upon heroes and heroines of everyday life who's sacrifice, toil, and achievements too often pass unrecognized and unsung.

Co-chairman Bob Wallace opened the presentation with a description of Elizabeth Rainey's life of 69 years. She is a 37-year volunteer at Memminger Elementary School in downtown Charleston. She has worked as an unpaid volunteer from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM every day that the school has been open, since 1972. Her voluntary duties include janitorial, cafeteria, library, and kindergarten teacher's assistant work. She is still going strong!!

Program co-chairman Bob Wallace presents the 2007-8 Book of Golden Deeds award to Elizabeth Rainey, as Club President Rick Lowndes, looks on. Fred Whittle and Harry Robbins were also the program co-chairmen. Good job gentlemen !
